Good luck to all the CDN teams participating in the LV Invitational tournament....and of course to the Senior CDN teams. We hope they both do great like last year in Vegas, and the men can build off the NZ 7s results this past weekend.

Look for the sea of Red and White in the stands opposite the grandstand....lots of beer, sun, and great rugby!
Hope to see you there.

Former Canadian U-17 member (2009) Sam Blanchet will be on the bench for the Exeter Chiefs when they take on Bath this weekend in Anglo-Welsh Cup action. I'm fairly certain that he as well as his brother Justin (who was also apart of the Canadian U17 team in '09) have been seeing some playing time fairly consistently in the Aviva A League for "Exeter United".

So it's good to see some Canadian content in the higher leagues even if it is an Anglo-Welsh Cup match.

Sinclair is in 5 straight games, plays great, then they sign Ofisa Treviranus and he hasn't even made the bench since.

I don't know what the passport situation is for the Pacific Islanders but I think Jebb may have become expendable. I hope he gets a fair shake because he's definitely show he can play, and stand out, at this level.

Yeah, it's obvious that the coaches don't favour O'Toole, which is understandable, as he can be quite inconsistent. But like you said, Sinclair was starting at 8 for a while, and all of a sudden he disappeared. Just wondering why.

I've watched all of Sinclairs and O'tooles games so far this year and Sinclair has been quite good and is probably just unlucky with the import rule not to be playing. I expect you will see a fair bit of him in the premiership this year especially once the teams start ram0ping up for six nations duty. Otoole was unremarkable in his debut and is going to need some injuries at the Osprey's to give him any more opportunity.

Sinclair has been starting at 8 for the Irish. He started a few weeks in a row, but he's suffering now due to import rules. I think O'Toole has had 1 start with Ospreys.

I will be at the Montellier match next week and though I haven't seen the lineups anounced I doubt he is gonna be on the list. I know MHR will be using their b-team like they last weekend since they are a small market team and have concentrated their resources on the Top 14 so he wont be missing much and I doubt they'll risk him for this match since MHR are already flying the white flag with regards to the H-cup. Pitty to since it started well leading Lienster untill the last 30 seconds of the first match when Remy Martin became overlly assertive. Speaking of which....
Cudmore didn't come here either this year, due to... excessive Cudmorism in a previous match.

My question is when does it stop. Tri's have gone from 3 points to 4 points to 5 points now a proposed 6 points?

My impression of the games at WC were that they were entertaining, and played very well.

I do not believe a changing of the points is warranted as there will be other consequences that will be negative. With lower points for penalties I can see teams looking to commit fouls on a more regular basis as the penalty is not as punitive. With teams potentially taking steps to kill the ball, etc on a more deliberate and continuous basis... I can see the game being slowed down rather than sped up. I could also see the play become more disjointed with increased amounts of penalties and much continuity lost as ball is killed and slowed by defending teams.

The game should be left alone it pretty entertaining as is.

If you want to increase the pace of the game eliminate lifting from the line outs. Props would save an abundance of energy that could be used for running around the park.

I understand where you are trying to go with that. My main concern of going down this route is as follows. If inside your 22 and under threat there is much less dissinsetive to not commit a breach of the laws. Why not just give up the 2 points? Even if they kick to the corner you've taken a situation where you are scrambling around in defense to one where you defense is set. Beside that having a set piece in the corner is hardly 'running' rugby.

I think we see far more counter attacking now than under the ELV's and actually like the way the game is being played. Look at the last 4 teams in the World Cup : all have a reputation of trying to keep the ball in hand. Usually in the next cycle other teams try and emulate what worked for the previously successful team(s).

There was an interesting article on PlanetRugby lately about changing the points for the different methods of scoring in rugby games. It would appear to me that there is an awful lot of kicking away possession for territorial advantage.....instead of running rugby, ball in hand. The result is that teams are "going for goal" and taking penalty kicks much more frequently than say kicking for the corner and going for tries.

Do you think the current point allocations are good for the game of rugby? If not, what would you change to improve the game from a spectators point of view?

For me:
Try 6 pts
Conversion 1pt
Penalty Kick 2pts
Drop-Goal 3pts.

I think the fact that teams would have to kick 3 penalties to match one try would benefit the teams that keep ball in hand.....and ideally, make the game more entertaining.

Your thoughts?

The mark of a Great team is that they find a way to Win
even when they do not play well. WELL DONE NZ!!
For me, the story of World Cup 2011 was:
"Good Goal Kicking or Lack of It".
Coaches,at all levels, should learn from this.
When you select your team, Pick your Best Kicker first!

Weepu was their best kicker after Carter went down and where did that get them. Same with England and Jonny.
