I was at least one who thought he deserved more caps. Remember him as a feisty and speedy back, which are treasured qualities of a flanker (assuming Cambridge have better backs at their disposal). Saw the article and 'Guinness' threw me for a loop ... maybe he's married and each took each other's name?

The Solution to Future Rugby Refereeing 'Problems'[u]

Having read and listened to a lot of complaining over the last couple of weeks in regards to the state of referees at the Rugby World Cup, I think I have come up with a solution. Because commentators and fans are much better at spotting and analysing infringements, it would be more appropriate if they called the game.

The IRB should do away with referees and go with a system not unlike the way boxing judges see over bouts in the Olympics. Each game will be officiated by five fat fans sitting at home, two from each side and one neutral, along with one biased announcer representing each team. Each person will have a box in front of them with a series of coded buttons. By hitting exclusive or combos of buttons, these judges can make the call for offside, hands-in the ruck, collapsing the scrum, dangerous tackles, etc ... all the Laws. An infraction will be called when 4 of 7 have registered a particular incident within a second of each other, after which a whistle will bleet over the stadium loud speakers, stopping play. Then a robot voice, such as that on your sat nav will let the fans and players know what the infringement was. Advantage will no longer be played because teams just kick it away anyway, and we don't want that.

In the case of dangerous play, time will be whistled off and the crowd will be asked to - immediately and without delay - show a thumbs up or a thumbs down signal. Stewards will have 30 seconds to tally as many of the ups and downs as they can on iPads provided by the IRB with the money they would have paid referees, ARs and the TMO. 'Stay on' or 'Go to the bin' will be adjudged. (We don't want red cards spoiling games, so no one will ever be suspended from a match unless a death occurs.) Any such incidents which warrant a citing commission will instead be sent directly to a facebook page with a poll outlining the options for the cited player. Anyone in the world may vote on this so long as they do so within 24 hours of the incident.

'Problem' solved.

Whoa there Paddy! I still standby my posting. Canada still
has one more game to win before I hand out the roses.
See posting above for our previous 2 World Cup victories over Tonga. This time we win by 5 points and many want to
send up the fireworks. How about the USA victory over Russia by 7 points. Start writing about "Historic win".
I say "Job Done" by USA and Canada. Good thing you didn't
have to play Samoa.
Irish how about a little bet? My call France by 24
Your call? Lets see what "U Know" before the game.

Growapair feel free to make a pregame call.
Read Japan's coach comments re NZ game. He is not telling
his team they are playing to win. JK has realistic goals.
That's good coaching!!

Couldn't get Grow or Irish to make a pre game call. No Fun!
Missed by 3 points. Didn't expect Parra to kick so well.

Canada had little chance of beating Fr(+27)and have even
less of beating the All Blacks. Expect the spread to be at
least double against the AB's second team.
Forget About It and focus on Japan. Hopefully our Key players(DTH and AK) will have recovered? I believe
they both will play. I also believe they will play hurt.

Tonight's game Pick a well rested Japan to Win.
Rain would help Tonga.
A lot of rain could give Tonga a W.

Get a room boys... it is starting to get a tad creepy. As for the game last night, great bloody stuff from the boys. Titillating in every sense of the word! Jolly good show I say! The thing that matters is that the boys (if for however brief a moment, believed they could win that game). the attitudes, the feelings in their camp must be unreal, and kudos must be given to KC, regardless of any of our personal thoughts about the man. The other thing I've noticed, I was in two different bars downtown Vancouver last night for the game, and both had rugby playing prominently with tons and tons of non rugby / casual fans watching. This is huge for us as a small rugby country, and I can feel it in my loins, an excitement growing that has never grown before! Maybe I should be the one getting a room! Onwards and upwards chaps!

And that's the bottom line, cuz Son of Heavy said so....

The reality is, we have to play France on four days rest. It’s very unfortunate, and articles have been written about the second-tier nations being shafted by the schedule, but it has no bearing whatsoever on the Japan match. We have nine days rest between France and Japan, which is more than enough. The only risk is injury, which is present every time you play rugby.

I, for one, think we have a chance - very slim, but a chance nonetheless - to beat the French, and I can’t wait, so bring it on!

Best coaching decision this staff has ever made. The only change that would be altered in my book is RS. He is a midfield liability and the other bloke is way better. Just an armchair quarterbacks thought.

At a WC you should always play your best team and go for the victory. Anything less and you are cheating the game. Canada has 10 days to prepare for Japan and this now NEW defensive minded team will beat France.

Cudmore do not get sucked into something stupid from your French counterparts, you know they know that you are suspect to idiotic penalties and that your favorite colour is yellow followed closely by rouge.

Frank We will not beat France and what if any of the
following get injured? AK,JC,DTH, and JP (goal kicker).
New Zealand rested key players against Japan.
Telling players they can win every game they play is
is a mistake. Most players know it is a lie and the coach
looses credibility.

growapair, the problem is not that I make any claim to great knowledge of any subject; I don't. The problem is that your lack of knowledge in no way discourages you from making pronouncements that reflect this deprviation. I don't teach English nor history. I spent the last ten years operating excavating equipment and throwing iron on a drilling rig. I'm not sure what that says about you.

Clyde,
The problem is that you don't know anything about me, my level of knowledge, or my experience. Yet that doesn't stop you from taking an attacking, belligerent approach. And I don’t take it personally because that has been your style with everyone, since you first appeared on this forum. Perhaps you should ask yourself what that says about you.
At any rate, I’ve grown weary with this and I’m done.
To end on a positive note: You mentioned earlier that you are now having fun coaching. This country needs more people to give back to the game and for that, I commend you.

Regardless of teams...lineups...days off...who knows what on here...who does what for a living....

It's time to get the chanting going and cheering on our boys for their game against France.

Go Canada Go !!! Such a great performance against Tonga, showed our true grit and heart and fought for the 80min...and the result was positive. We never quit, never stopped tackling, never stopped believing as long as we put in the effort, good things would happen.

Let's do it again!

GO CANADA GO !

growapair, the problem is not that I make any claim to great knowledge of any subject; I don't. The problem is that your lack of knowledge in no way discourages you from making pronouncements that reflect this deprviation. I don't teach English nor history. I spent the last ten years operating excavating equipment and throwing iron on a drilling rig. I'm not sure what that says about you.

The same thoughts as knower crossed my mind when I read that Canada is starting the same group. I hope we are wrong and it turns out to be a great idea. Another worrisome thought crossed my mind. Perhaps the coaching staff has been lulled into thinking they have a good chance of beating France and we lose our best players to injury in a lost cause.
Another part of brain is telling me it is to relax. Our players aren't made of glass and they will have more than a week to recover before the Japan match.
I agree this is a great world cup so far. There have been a lot of tight matches and little teams showing potential and gritty courage. However only one big suprise in result is Ireland vs Australia, otherwise the wins and losses collums wouldn't cause anyone to fall out of their seats. Out of personal prejudice against their playing style the WC will be spoiled for me if South Africa wins everything again by grinding down and suffocating everyone else's offensive spark.

That's a coaching mistake, IMO.

Not resting players in agame that they are unlikely to win.
Japan rested most of their starting 15 vs the ABs and
paid a price. Unlike CANADA, Japan's staring 15
will be fresh for "The Game" both teams need to win to claim a successful World Cup.
