With the huge amounts of rugby going on right now, and with the Footy World Cup starting on Friday I treated myself by ordering Satanta sports. After watching the Canada/Uruguay game I agree with everyone that it was pretty solid display of attacking rugby. Stand outs for me were Menser-Coker, MacKenzie, and Tait. It was good to see all of the lads come off the bench to make an impact, Dala looked dangerous (minus the fact that he cant tackle). People on this post have talked about Dala playing in the centres, and Gareth Rees even brought that up during the broadcast. Dala, a natural fly-half should be given a shot at inside centre, so here is my starting 15 vs France A

    1.Tiedemann
    2.Riordan
    3.Marshall (looked good against Uruguay)
    4.Tait
    5.Hotson
    6.O'Toole
    7.Kleeberger
    8.Carpenter

    9.White
    10.Monro
    11.Mensah-Coker
    12.Dala
    13.MacKenzie
    14.DTH
    15.Pritchard or Evans

Canada beats Urugauy by a bigger score than France. 48-6 vs 43-10. Does this make us 9 poits better than France. I doubt it but I hope so.

Intereting the swap of Evans and Pritchard. I'm wondering if Pritch is still suffering a little from that knock to the mellon he took against Uruguay. He definately was off the mark after that point. I'm surprised Woolridge gets the start over Marshall. He was definately under the cosh last week and things seemed to settle down after Marshall came in at loosehead.

After watching the France Uruguay match i'm actually a little more hopeful. If the boys can just eliminate some of those handling errors things might not be as rough as I first anticipated. No lineup from France yet but I suspect it will be stronger. Last weeks did not include Medard and was probably a little weaker than what we will see Sunday.

    Go Canada go

I'm surprised you don't know what side of the scrum is which. Marshall came in at Tighthead for Tiedman.
The scrum was more stable at that point but that may be down to the exit of one of the worlds best scrummagers Pablo Lemoine around the same time.
Think the boys will be in tough against whoever plays for France.

Wow! What a great effort! Looks like all the Crowley and JMC haters out there may have to eat a little crow. We have been steadily improving and I hope we can keep this up. This'll set a few IRB tongues wagging...

Great result and Congrats to Canada!

Still need work on the scrums. Great effort and wave after of men hitting on defense.

The Scrum needs a lot of work and the Saxons will be opting to scrum at every opportunity. We really have a lot more flair than the days when Sluggo was in charge, you can definitely see the Kiwi influence. This was as good a game as I have seen from Canada in many years.

By the way, did anyone else laugh when the camera panned to Dolezel's arse? Got a chuckle there...

YES! What an exciting game to watch. Well done Canada on a much deserved win and incredible performance. So much effort out there and some impressive trys. I have never seen such an impressive performance from an offensive and defensive point of view.

Well I was right we weren't 9 points better but I'll take a 6 point win happily.

our scrums are always crap...uraguay manhandled us.

great game though....excellent to see so much ball in hand...the kick and chase days even against superior opposition seem to be behind us.

    amazing result.

I think the scrum for us is always going to be a problem until we can get enough tight 5 guys playing at a professional level against professional level opponents.

Just out of curiosity, from a pack perspective how do we measure up size wise to the top teams?

Disagree a bit. Tkachuk is playing with Glasgow and he really does not make a huge difference. I think it is the fact that they do not play together as a tight 5 against top calibre as much as they should be.

One thing, I think RC1404 went well, because not only did they play a higher level of Rugby in Wales, but they played together.

Crowley gave an excellent talk last year at the BC Coaching clinic where he laid out the challenges faced by the Canadian team. Number 1 on his list was size; to paraphrase, he insisted that our players are now just as fit, have as a good understanding of their defensive structure as any team in the world, do, in fact, have an ability to run with the ball, but size, especially in the pack is a clear seperator between us and the tier one nations. He had a chart that compared pack weights from the 2008 november tour, and our pack was outweighed by as much as 100 kg (vs wales in that case) - if you prefer, on the order of 25lbs per player. Some time together working on technique will make some difference, but it doesn't make our props or our locks 15kg heavier.

Geez! The french fans on the forum of Rugbyrama.fr are quite upset. they were happy for us but they complain mostly about the refereing and the lack of preparation of the Equipe A. The team could have been too sure of winning, apparently! The fans couldn't figure that a lost was possible, oh..they were unhappy but mind you, they were polite.
That remind me of the first lost at the beginning of the Canada-Soviet Union serie in 1972.
    Bravo à toute l'équipe.
