Mutrie is a credit to both the Women's rugby team, to her own love of rugby and to her skill's in sniffing out and presenting stories about her team. In her last artical she reports that our women's team possesses 3 PHD's, 9 Master's degrees and 21 undergrad degrees. Hard not to be impressed with that level of achievement!!!!

I am also impressed by the amount of effort, as reported on her video and in her last artical, with the women's individual preparation. I really want for these players to see some success over the next week as a result of this effort.

    Go.
Lets beat the French twice, set down a marker for next year's world cup in England.

Mutries articles are well written and researched and we have a very fine group of players representing us.

Mutrie is doing the women's program a wonderful service - and for free.

Don't the men have a full time, PAID media guy? He's not half the writer this gal is; maybe RC should see about getting some value for the money they're spending?

    Go Canada!

    Bravo les filles!
I tried to follow your adventure on the french web site but Geez! What a pity, almost nothing on your visit, France is supposed to be a rugby country, but not much on the women side of the sport.
Allez les filles, à "go" on fonce vers la victoire, deux fois plutôt qu'une.

I am concerned about us starting 5 new caps in a game that has been billed as a critical turning point for our NSWT. We should not be experimenting with new personal at this juncture. If we have some new faces that need some field exposure, putting them all on the field at the same time does not do them or our experianced ladies, who have made huge sacrifices to be in France, justice.

On another subject, the Black Fern have beaten England 16-3. They scored on England in spite of having 2 players in the bin at the same time. Hard not to admire the New Zealanders!!

5 new caps does seem a bit much. I can understand bringing them in later in the game, but not as starters.

I was of the opinion that this was to be a Canada A vs France A game?I think that all these ladies in some way have all made sacrifices and at 2500.00 a pop you might not get many players traveling just to practice 3 times a day in France instead of at home and not play.My thoughts would be that the more crucial match would be at the Stade Francais on the 21st in Paris where they have a potential to play in front of a substantial fan base albeit the match is 3 hrs prior to the France vs Samoa kick off. Also on the NZ Women to think they have played only 4 test matches since the 2006 World Cup and beat Eng 16-3, and the Eng A 48-3

I think tlml is right. When are these girls going to get a chance to make their debut for Canada, there arent a lot of internationals left before world cup and the coaches need to see how they play at this level. I think you will see a much different lineup for Sat and it will be interesting to see how they do against France. I believe when Canada played France in August there were 3 first caps in that squad and they only lost by 5, with no tries scored on them. Good luck to the girls

For anyone interested, (and sorry for repeating if it has already been mentioned, but I have not found it on here)a website focusing on women's rugby recently came online.

    http://www.scrumqueens.com

they are actually doing a very good job of covering all aspects of international women's rugby. Meghan Mutrie is just one of their writers / bloggers. I recommend everyone checks it out - it really represents the type of PR the NSWT need more of!

Well done girls, nice to see Ontario (national champions) providing both try scorers. Good luck on Saturday at Stade de France, let's make it 2 for 2 with another good win. the report I read on Scrum Queens said the crowd in Dijon was 3,000 which is great for a women's game. I'm assuming it will be much bigger in Paris on the weekend.

    GO CANADA GO.

Too bad there wasn't a video of the game.

France will come back hard in Paris! Should be a great match.

This result will be deflating for our program. I know the ladies will resolve to work even harder because of it. The problem however is not their work ethic or their athletic abilities. It is rather the coach's and RC administration's inability to see that these women need to spend more time together practicing and playing. Coming together for 5-6 days before each test match 2-3 times a year will not deliver the results they are seeking.

18 mo ago I suggested we send the team to New Zealand for the monthes of July and August to play New Zealands 4-5 regional teams culminating with 2 test matches against the Black Fern and Australia. I again advocate we do this. The Black Fern remain the dominant program in the world and have now proven this by handely beating the English with the bennefit of only 4 test matches since the last world cup. The Australian program by virtue of the World Cup 7's result is also on the rise. NZ's lack of need to seek out test match's is the result of the most competitive club and regional system in the world.

WE need to tap into that system. The Kiwi's would welcome our team with open arms. Their regional teams would love to play us. 6-7 weeks of solid rugby prior to London against South Pacific's finest would make a huge difference.

The challenge again is that this needs to be organized NOW, so that all concerned , especially the coaches and ladies can plan for it in their lives.

My understanding is that there was or still is a tour planned for NZ in May.Nice idea however what of the costs,France originally for 11 days was pegged at 4000.00 then reduced to 2500.00.What would 2 mths in NZ cost?If planned for prior to the WC the girls would have to prepare for atleast 3 months off.The planning for something like this would take aleast 2 yrs in order to accomodate the inclusion of the Women into the NZ schedule.

I mentioned this after the Dijon win that the most important game would be the Stade game and not the Dijon fixture. However in saying this all is not lost better to lose now and analyze why to be better prepared for the WC.

Fan I agree that going to NZ for two months would be benificial to the team but do you have pockets that deep. Forget the cost how many of the women could afford the time away from school or work. In a perfect world we would do as you suggest but this is no where near a perfect world.

Guys, you really do under estimate the women on our team. If they come to an understanding that the difference between medaling or not, is their ability to sacrifice 6 weeks to travel to NZ and there train and play against some of the worlds best, I think I know what their decission will be.

Also do not think that this 6 weeks is incremental to what they are probably already planning. At the very least the coaches are already planning a 2-3 week session somewhere here in Canada. What is incremental in my idea is the fight differencial between flying everyone to a central location in Canada versus a flying to NZ. The IRB will probably pick up the tab to get us from NZ to London. Also the 7's program proved how renting condo's and cooking for themselves in San Diago can be very cost efficient compared to hoteling it (it is tourist off season in NZ).

In other words, where there is a will there is a way. I think you are to quick to dismiss the possibility of this happening without letting the women themselves decide.

Note also that if you ditch the plan to go in May and go one month later you have no incremental flight costs and have in fact created a cost saving by not flying home from NZ (now an IRB tab to London) and by not having to gather some where in Canada to practice.

Fan, who dresses the Canadian women? Love the hot & red black get up and go suits worn at the post game functions. This is why they are # 4 in the world and # 1 in your hearts.

I don't really see a need to tour NZ if the costs are astronomical. If it's about playing higher quality competition, then I think they'd be better suited playing England's regional Super 4s teams with a couple of Tests against the English, and one vs. Wales.
