Outrage as French rugby player admits assault lie

    WELLINGTON (AFP) — New Zealand officials reacted with outrage and called for an inquiry after French rugby player Mathieu Bastareaud admitted his claim of being attacked by thugs in Wellington was a lie.
    The 20-year-old said Thursday in a statement on the website of his French club Stade Francais that a cut and bruising on his face was caused by a fall in his room after drinking with team-mates early on Sunday.

    He is young and should be cut some slack, but some discipline is required by the French federation. The lesson to evrryone out there is always tell the truth even if it is embarassing.

    You should read the planet rugby forum initial incident back and forth hatred (oddly between Irish and Kiwis), and then the virtual meltdown once this story broke. It was mayhem. :)

    What immaturity, though. And I think we can get an idea of the size of the lad`s ego in saying it took five blokes to beat him up!

    It keep geting curiouser and moer curiouser, supsosedly Basteraud attempted suicide and i admitted to an undislosed clinic somewhere near Paris to recover. He was stupid but does he, or any celebrity deserve the media circus that follows such mistakes.
