Can someone tell me what the formal rule is for having 16 players on the field during play; even if its just for a few seconds and the 16th man wasn`t `directly` involved in the movement of the ball? This happened to England against Samoa (I think) in RWC`03. Just saw it happen here in a club match recently. There was no call.

Any ideas? Any refs out there?

The team with the extra player is made to send of one player and is penalised. This was not the case in 2003 where the player was ordered off but there was no penalty. After this incident the IRB changed the law. Your title for this topic should be law book, not rule book as there are no rules in rugby, there are laws. Rules are hard and fast, laws may be interpreted. I am now adding on to this to get it to six lines to make Moosehead happy, not to add to the value of the post.

I would say that in fact rules may be interpreted and laws are hard and fast. Regardless, I have no problems with hard and fast.

You have to follow Moosehead`s law otherwise you`ll be chatting to yourself on this site before long. People asked you to cool it, that`s all. And a lot of people; for a long time. It started gently and then became more forceful because you didn`t get it. If this kind of thing happens in your life more generally, then it might go a long way to explaining why you spend all of your free time on this site. What will you have if you don`t have this? It`s in your best interest to tone it down a little. You`re not "making Moosehead happy". You could just leave altogether. What you`re doing is accomodating Moosehead; veiled as an effort to chagrin. That`s the telling part.

    Ciao.
