    On Saturday the Ajax Wanderers mens first team beat the Toronto Saracens 38-14 to clinch first place in the TRU A league. With this comes automatic promotion to the Keenan Division of the ONtario Senior League next year after 6 years in the Toronto leagues.

    The game was aired on Rogers TV and therefore I got a chance to see it as I had to work Saturday afternoon after playing a half a game in a big win for the Wanderers thirds. In the thirds we had four over 50s start and the other three played the full game while I was replaced at half time. We were up when I left but without me we really pured it on in the second half to win 47-7 and I'm not even very sore. Who says old guys can't play.

    The main game was played on the stadium pitch and featured John Moonlight at #7 and Kyle Armstrong (scrum half for Canada U20s the last two years) at #15. Both played well and contributed to the big win. Matt Wyles at #10 and winger Jordan Reid (watch this kid if you get a chance, he will be playing at Humber College this fall) had two tries each but for me man of the match was prop Jason Locke. he opened the scoring with a good ramble down the wing and was supporting around the pitch all game. The Wanderers had trouble in the scrums but any time they played the ball wide they looked good. Matt Jackson also had a great game jumping in the lineouts.

    After the Wanderers went up 38-0 the Saracens got a couple of consolation tries as the Wanderers flooded the pitch with reserves.

    Next year in the Keenan the Wanderers will be further challenged but look in good shape under the eys of coach Stew Dobbs who had a first team with an average age of 23, including centre Ivan Lamb who is I believe 41 and the only holdover form the McCormick cup team of 98.
